PROGRAM PRACTICE:

Build a Transportation Web Portal
From: Houston Independent School District

Sample Materials:

In the large, urban Houston Independent School District (HISD), transportation is a large-scale function that requires the cooperation and ingenuity of several departments and employees. Because transportation routes are often changing, particularly in areas with highly transient populations, HISD has created a Transportation Web Portal that constantly updates bus stop locations.

The website is used to provide transportation information including: route sheets, bus stop locations, student registration forms, and bus roster data for its campuses, customers, and employees. All HISD administrators are able to request transportation, check on the status of buses and routes, view specific student routes, and make inquiries online directly to the Transportation Department. On Mondays, transportation updates are posted online and every Wednesday changes are made to routes, schedules, and other transportation events.
